The New Trend: Using AI to Create Ghibli-Style Images

I've been a fan of Studio Ghibli films for as long as I can remember. Their breathtaking animation, hand-drawn artistry, and heartfelt storytelling have always been a source of inspiration for me. As someone who does arts, I truly appreciate the effort and skill behind every frame—it's what gives Ghibli films that magical "wow" factor to me.

But now, with AI everywhere, a new trend has to come into existence: using ChatGPT to generate Ghibli-style images.

Don't get me wrong—I admit that I use AI. It helps me with writing, researching, and learning new words or concepts. AI has been a useful tool for many things.

However, when it comes to AI-generated art, I feel uneasy. As a full-time designer, it's terrifying to think about how powerful AI has become. Will it replace human artists? Who knows?
Art shapes my life—the music I listen to, the drawings I create, the shows I watch. It’s a core part of who I am. The thought of AI replacing real art feels fake, empty… and honestly, really sad.

AI Can Never Replace Ghibli

"I believe the tool of an animator is the pencil."
Hayao Miyazaki (NYT Interview, 2021)

For some, Ghibli-style AI art might seem like a cool trend. But for artists who spend countless hours perfecting every brushstroke to achieve that style, it feels like a slap in the face. Ghibli films aren’t just about the aesthetic—they are a labor of love, crafted with dedication and soul.

Believe it or not, I’ve seen people using this tool to make money—OMG! With just one click, they can earn fast. But what about the artists who put in the effort to create that style?

That’s truly terrifying! 😔

An anonymous commenter on a YouTube video about AI-generated Ghibli art put it best:
"What's so baffling is people are suddenly disrespecting Miyazaki for being ‘against technology’ and claiming ‘AI is a threat to his business,’ villainizing him for it."

I don't care how well AI copies human creativity—I will always support real artists. Because at the end of the day, art isn't just about the final image. It's about the process, the passion, and the human touch behind it. And that’s something AI can never truly replicate.
